The authorities Wednesday set limits on melamine levels in milk and associated food products , seeking to curb the use of the chemical. The limits were set at 1 milligram per kilogram for infant formula, and 2.5 milligram per kilogram for other dairy products including liquid milk, according to a joint statement issued by five government agencies including AQSIQ, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Standards in Hong Kong and <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /> New Zealand also set a safe melamine limit in food products of 2.5 milligram per kilogram , while Hong Kong has lowered the level for children under 3 and pregnant or lactating women to 1 milligram per kilogram . |
