Pu Changcheng meets with EU guests

Nov. 15, Vice Minister of AQSIQ Pu Changcheng met with former EU food safety councilor David Bourne and his group in Beijing. Both sides held friendly talks on how to deal with food safety crisis and rebuild public confidence. Pu Changcheng firstly expressed welcome to David Bourne, and introduced measures taken by China to deal with food safety emergencies. He said, since Sanlu Infant Formula Event, national quality inspection system had made all efforts to do emergency treatment work well, examined all contaminated or possibly contaminated foods, inspected products in markets and export products, release test result promptly, and completed related system, regulation and standard. So far, the food safety event had been effectively treated. Pu Changchegn expressed at the same time that China still had to do a lot to prevent and control food safety emergency event. He hoped both sides could strengthen communication. China was willing to learn from the experience of EU in dealing with food safety emergencies, and treat such emergencies appropriately. David Bourne thanked Pu Changchegn for his kind welcome. He expressed that China hold responsibility not only for domestic consumers but also for foreign consumers in dealing with Sanlu Infant Formula Event. He said it was very important to complete food traceability system and attach importance to feed safety. He hoped that both countries could strengthen communication and cooperation in the future to improve food quality and safety together.
