Joint China-U.S.-EU Initiative on Consumer Product Safety Compliance initiated

Sep 19, AQSIQ, CPSC and EC initiated Joint China - U.S. - EU Initiative on Consumer Product Safety Compliance in Beijing. This activity was a joint training initiative by the three parties to promote consumer product safety compliance. The activity began on Sep. 19 and ended on 25. More than 30 government officials, experts and enterprises from US and EU would provide related introductions and training separately. On the morning of Sep. 19, Vice Minister of AQSIQ Wei Chuanzhong, Acting Chairman of CPSC Nancy Nord, and Director General of European Commission Directorate General for Health and Consumer, Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry Robert Madelin attending the activity held tripartite ministerial level talk. The three sides reached agreements on consumer product safety, discussed and passed joint statement on consumer product safety, and held joint news conference. The activity was centered on the theme of Consumer Product Safety ??A Common Objective, and the joint outreach on clothes, toys, and electrical & electronic products would be held respectively in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai. U.S., European and Chinese experts would be invited to provide training and to answer enterprises??questions regarding current issues and technical progress. Issues addressed would include the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 recently passed in the United States and forthcoming European requirements, especially with respect to toys. China - U.S. ??EU consumer product trade played an important role in international consumer product trade and global trade which was becoming more and more important. As major trade partners, Sino-US, Sino-EU and US-EU had bilateral and multilateral co operations in many other fields. This was the first tripartite direct cooperation in consumer product field. The activity set a new start for tripartite cooperation, and opened a new page for China - U.S. ??EU consumer product safety cooperation. Joint China - U.S. - EU Initiative on Consumer Product Safety Compliance was a new measure of the three sides, and joint statement was tripartite formal and serious promise, which would surely promote the cooperation and communication of China - U.S. - EU consumer product quality and safety, set a good example for international world and make great contributions to international consumer product trade safety.
