No food safety accidents occur during Beijing Olympics

Spokeswoman Tang Yunhua of Beijing Municipal Government Food Safety Supervision and Coordination Office told Xinhua news reporters on 25, August, that no food safety accidents occurred in Beijing during Beijing Olympics.

From August 7to 21, Beijing Olympic food safety inspector had supervised and monitored more than 1,700,000 foods including breakfasts, lunches, suppers, and midnight snacks for athletes, officials coming with teams and registered media journalists in Olympic Village, Media Village, Major News Center, International Broadcast Center and all competing venues, and not a single food safety accidents had been reported. Inspectors in competitive venues, noncompetitive venues, training venues, Olympic Family Hotels, VIP hotels, Athletes self-service hotels, media hotels, Olympic food producing enterprises and bases in Beijing area had sent and received 4864 batches and 4987 cars of food raw materials, and no food safety accidents happened.

During Olympics Games, Beijing strengthened supervision and control on Olympic food logistics and food in Olympic food and drinks service areas, strengthened supervision and administration on Olympic venues, areas around contracted hotels, competition lines, urban-rural junctional areas, tourist spot, commercial streets and transportation centers, and beat heavily food production and management against the law. The city had sent 42854 law enforcement officials, initiated 97 joint examinations, inspected 50988 food production and management units, and tested 2986 sample food products. The food safety status was generally good.

Meanwhile, Beijing fully initiated Olympic food safety monitor and traceability system, monitoring Olympic food alternative supplying bases, production enterprises, logistics distribution centers, transportation vehicles, food and drinks service areas, and implementing all-process monitor and information traceability from Olympic food planting and breeding original places, to food raw materials production, processing and distribution to Olympic food tables.
