2008 National Quality Month activities worked out

Activities concerning the National Quality Month campaign in September this year have been deployed in an all-round way, focusing on such highlights as post-disaster reconstruction, supporting Olympic Games, and celebrating the 30th anniversary of comprehensive quality management implementation. Through a series of activities staged, this September will help foster an environment in which the whole society shows continuous concerns on quality.

China Quality Month 2008 is themed with ??uality safety is the cornerstone of social harmony?? and the whole country will conduct activities including providing quality management support for quake-hit areas, embracing Beijing Olympics with quality services, and commemorating the 30th anniversary of China's reform and opening up and of comprehensive quality management implementation, said a notice jointly issued by the Publicity Department of CPC Central Committee, AQSIQ, National Development and Reform Commission, All China Federation of Trade Unions, and Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, June 25.

In September, all districts will, when needs arise, organize quality experts to help businesses in disaster-affected areas in Sichuan and other provinces to resume production in the shortest time possible. Activities will cover such aspects as helping enterprises to improve internal quality management system, rendering free consultancy and on-the-spot instruction, and urging China Top Brand enterprises to be involved in the program.

To embrace the coming Olympics, all districts will launch the following initiatives: providing quality products, projects and services to support Beijing Olympics, National Campaign of No Fake Goods, advocating credible metrology for all, urging enterprises of famous-brands and quality products to maintain good credibility, and holding on-the-site meeting on development of quality product production bases.

During this period, related departments in various areas will demonstrate the achievements in promoting product quality and quality management, and launch inspection on quality control system in enterprises. The 30th national quality control circles meeting and the 30th anniversary celebration on implementation of comprehensive quality management with the theme of ??haring, harmony, enhancing??will be convened as well as the relevant discussions, which will bring together quality experts, economists, and entrepreneurs to share experience in quality management over the past 30 years.

This month will also witness China Top Brand Awards Presentation Ceremony, which gives full recognition to outstanding enterprises, top brands and quality products. Other conferences or programs during this period are as follows: The 16th China Quality Forum with the theme of "pursuing supreme quality, and fostering world top brands", and The 5th China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair and Sino-Korea Small and Medium Enterprises Fair in Guangzhou, which is to publicize top brands and outstanding businesses, and display the fruitful outcomes of Top Brand Strategy promotion program. In addition, the Communiqu茅 on the 2007 National Quality Competitiveness Index of Manufacturing and the newly amended Criteria for Performance Excellence (GB/T 19580-004) will be announced.

These departments will promote popularization of quality management knowledge, mobilize people from all walks of life to learn applied technology and know-how on quality safety, and encourage employees to put forward rational proposals, conduct technical innovation, tackle key technical problems, and carry out invention, on-the-job training, and technical competitions.

Some of the major slogans as stated in the notice are: Winning through Quality and Pursuing Development in Scientific Way, Developing Quality Benchmark and Enjoying Harmonious Life, Providing Quality Products for Beijing Olympics, Focusing on Food Safety to Ensure Public Health, Providing Quality Products to Aid Reconstruction Efforts in Disaster-affected Areas, and Adopting International Standards to Enhance Competitive Edges.

September is designated as National Quality Month in China from 1978 on, with a view to promoting quality awareness and enhancing quality of products and services.
