CHINA is forging ahead with its export business by bringing its products closer to its buyers, such as in the case of Dubai where it recently opened a major shopping mall to display its goods to the world, the Financial Times reported.
The complex is shaped like a dragon's head and is appropriately named the "Dragon Mart" and extends nearly two kilometres across the desert. Built with mainland money, it's now home to more than 2,000 companies from China, which sell a large range of Chinese-made products.
The article pointed out that the complex is part of a "broader Chinese push into the Gulf, and is being used as a "platform for the expansion of Chinese exports into the Middle Eastern, European and African markets".
The newspaper quoted the chairman of the local property developer as saying that traders from all over the world can now purchase Chinese products without having to travel to China.
It was also pointed out in the article that traders to Africa, the Middle East and eastern Europe use Dubai as a re-export centre. In addition, the Gulf Emirate is expanding its ports and airports after cargo throughout surged 20 per cent last year.
