Chongqing to start building Cuntan Port Area phase 3

CHONGQING International Container Terminals has received approval from its parent company Chongqing Gangjiu Co Ltd. to start construction on the Cuntan Port Area phase 3 project, Xinhua reported.



The project includes two multi-use berths of 3,000 tonnes, a stack yard and other auxiliary facilities, generating an annual container handling capacity of 160,000 TEU and bulk capacity of 350,000 tonnes. Construction will commence at the close of 2008 and is estimated to last three years.







The Cuntan Port Area phase 2 project is under construction. After it is finished in 2009, the phase 1 and 2 will have a total of 5 multi-purpose berths with an aggregate capacity of 700,000 TEU as well as two ro-ro berths which can handle 300,000 cars a year.







By 2015, Cuntan Port Area's container throughput is expected to reach 1 million TEU and bulk capacity 1.25 million tonnes. In order to meet the demand for handling growing cargo volume, government of Chongqing has required to start the Cuntan Port Area phase 3 project.
