The Grand Alliance and the New World Alliance have pooled resources on the Asia to West Mediterranean route in a move which will halve the number of ships on the roster.
Eight 6,000-teu boxships have been assigned to the service, with The Grand Alliance putting in six and The New World Alliance two. Previously the two groups had a combined total of 18 vessels working on the route. The changes will come into force on 23 December, with a stop at Chiwan added to the service at the same time. The revised rotation is Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Chiwan, Shekou, Hong Kong, Singapore, Port Klang, Jeddah, Damietta, Genoa, Fos, Barcelona, Valencia, Damietta, Singapore, Hong Kong, Busan. Hapag-Lloyd, MISC Berhad, Nippon Yusen Kaisha, and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) make up The Grand Alliance. New World Alliance comprises APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine and Mitsui OSK Lines.
