Buenaventura terminal on the rails

15 Dec 08 - The Barcelona-based TCB group and its South American partner Grupo Empresarial Del Pacifico reportedly teamed up with a consortium of 850 local investors to develop their new Buenaventura Bay container terminal in Colombia. TCB had won the project this summer (See related news) and was awarded a 30-year lease for the new box facility. Entirely privately funded, the new container terminal will be the largest and most modern container port in Colombia. Presently, work is underway to build the 10-hectare container yard as well as a 450 m quay. The first berth of the new terminal is scheduled to come on stream in 2010. Equipped with two ship-to-shore gantries, it will have an initial handling capacity of 0.18 Mteu per year. Three additional construction phases will gradually bring the terminal??s annual handling capacity to about 1 Mteu.(Source : Press reports / Alphaliner)
