Ocean carrier MISC Berhad announced it will launch a dedicated container service linking Asia and South Africa, effective in March, 2009.
The move comes just after "K" Line and Pacific International Lines announced plans to introduce a new service on the route, ending their existing joint service with MISC.
"Starting earlier in the year, MISC has upgraded the South African organization and the next step is to add improved coverage of the ASEAN market connectivity to South Africa," the carrier stated.
The new service rotation will include a call at Tanjung Pelepas, and provide the trade with significant additional capacity. Details about vessel deployment and port coverage will be announced in January.
Malaysia-based MISC, however, said it expects to continue cooperation with "K" Line and PIL through slot-charter arrangements.
The existing joint service deploying seven vessels calls Shanghai, Ningbo, Kaohsiung, Shekou, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tanjung Pelepas, Durban, Cape Town, Port Kelang, Tanjung Pelepas, Singapore, Hong Kong, and back to Shanghai.
