Chengdu to build new tobacco logistics center

Oct. 7, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province and an important industrial, commercial and financial city in Southwest China, officially commenced on the construction of a tobacco logistics center yesterday. The project involves total investment of RMB 260 million. Located in the Longtan Industrial Park, the new logistics center is expected to be completed by the end of next year. Upon completion, the center will become the largest tobacco logistics center in China responsible for tobacco storage and distribution. Covering an area of 40,000 sq m, the new center will be able to handle 550,000 boxes of tobacco per annum.
In recent year, Chengdu has seen its average sales revenue of tobacco amounting to RMB 9 billion, ranking the fifth in the country after the four municipalities directly under the control of the central government.
