On June 10, Chinese President Hu Jintao, who was on a state visit to Sweden, attended a welcome dinner hosted by the Sweden-China Trade Council, and delivered an important speech. Hu pointed out, China will continue to implement its win-win strategy, adhere to the basic state policy of opening up, enlarge its economic and trade cooperation with other countries and regions, and promote common development and prosperity. And IPR protection is the common benefit of all countries. On China's economic development, Mr. Hu stressed, China will be firmly committed to IPR protection. IPR protection is not only the common benefit of all countries, but the need for broadening China's opening up, improving investment circumstance and strengthening the ability of independent innovation. In addition, China will further perfect IPR-related laws and regulations, arouse the IPR protection consciousness of the whole society and protect the rights and interests of IPR holders in China. Since the launch of the reform and opening-up program in 1978, he said, China has witnessed a rapidly-growing economy, boosted its productivity and increased the well-being of its people. Between 1978 and 2006, China's gross domestic product jumped from US$216.5 billion to more than US$2.6 trillion, growing at an average annual rate of 9.6 percent.
