Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi said Tuesday China attaches great importance to intellectual property protection and will enhance international cooperation on the issue. Wu made the remarks when addressing the ongoing International Symposium on Geographical Indications (GIs) in Beijing, jointly organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. A GI is a sign used on goods that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that place of origin. A GI usually consists of the name of the place of origin of the goods. Wu said she appreciates the efforts of the WIPO and China's trademark authorities in using GIs to promote economic and rural development. It is the first time that the symposium has been held in Asia and it would have a far-reaching influence on Asia and all developing countries, said Wu. Source: Xinhua |
