TM, GI referred in party document on rural reform

On October 19, Xinhua News Agency released the Third Plenary of the 17th Communist Party Central Committee's Decision Regarding Several Important Issues in Promoting Rural Reform.  The decision calls for overhaul of rural development structure, promotion of innovation and trade, upgrade of processing of agri-products, nurturing power players and big brands, supporting green food and organic food and stepping up protection of registered trademarks and geographical indications.

The Decision stresses the ultimate solution for agricultural development is technological advancement.  Measures in this regard include: accelerating innovation, following the technological trend of the world, eyeing on shaping modern agriculture, promoting original innovation, incremental innovation and innovation based on licensed technologies, facilitating systematization of agricultural technologies, mechanization of labor process, automation of production and operation, investing heavily on innovation, establish innovation fund, supporting basic and futuristic research and making breakthroughs in key areas and essential technologies.(by Li Zhuo)

加大农产品注册商标和地理标志保护力度

本报讯  10月19日，新华社受权发布了中共中共十七届三中全会通过的《中共中央关于推进农村改革发展若干重大问题决定》。决定指出，加快转变农业发展方式，推进农业科技进步和创新。发展农业产业化经营，促进农产品加工业结构升级，扶持壮大龙头企业，培育知名品牌。支持发展绿色食品和有机食品，加大农产品注册商标和地理标志保护力度。

决定指出，农业发展的根本出路在科技进步。要加快农业科技创新，顺应世界科技发展潮流，着眼于建设现代农业，大力推进农业科技自主创新，加强原始创新、集成创新和引进消化吸收再创新，不断促进农业技术集成化、劳动过程机械化、生产经营信息化。要加大农业科技投入，建立农业科技创新基金，支持农业基础性、前沿性科学研究，力争在关键领域和核心技术上实现重大突破。
