Established in March 1993, Liu, Shen & Associates is a patent and trademark agency designated by the Chinese government to deal with patent and trademark affairs involving overseas parties, and

also a law firm registered at the Ministry of Justice. As a three-in-one firm, Liu, Shen & Associates has the capability to serve its clients in all phases of intellectual property: acquisition of the rights, transfer and/or licensing of the rights, investment with the rights, enforcement and protection of the rights, and related litigation and administrative proceedings.

The practice of the firm mainly focuses on filing and prosecution patent applications and registration of trademarks on behalf of foreign clients. The firm also handles intellectual property laws related litigations, licensing and transfer of technology, joint ventures, e-commerce; related trial and appellate litigation as well as dispute resolutions before administrative authorities.

The strength of Liu, Shen & Associates is built on the quality and expertise of its people in the area of intellectual property and related laws and practices. Most partners have been leading practitioners in the area for more than two decades, and the majority of the professionals have advanced degrees in various majors. All the professionals are at least bilingual. The high-quality service has won the firm with trust from many well-known corporations in the world who therefore become the firm’s long-lasting clients and business partners.

The firm files over 10,000 patent applications and handles about 2000 trademark cases annually, and has represented clients in a number of high profile IP litigations, including the case which was announced by the Supreme Court of China in 2003 as one of the representative IP cases and was named as one of the ten most significant IP cases by the Beijing High Court for the last ten years.

The firm currently has 23 partners, 25 attorneys at law, 75 patent attorneys and 8 trademark agents. The firm’s total staff member is about 240.

Most partners of the firm are active in professional organizations. One partner is Vice President of All China Patent Agents Association, another is Vice President of China Intellectual Property Society, and still another is the Vice Present of AIPPI China Group. Numbers of partners are also actively involved in legislative processes concerning drafting and amending intellectual property and other laws and regulations. One partner is currently a member of the drafting committee of the Trade Secrets Law of China, and other two partners are members of the research group proposing amendment to the Patent Law.
