China Extends Zero-tariff Treatment on Commodities Imported From Africa

In order to strengthen the competition of African commodities in Chinese market and enlarge the African commodities exporting to China, China implements zero-tariff on some commodities from the least developed countries in Africa. At present, there are almost 500 commodities under zero-tariff treatment and China has imported 900 million U.S. dollars preferential commodities from Africa.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, since 2005, China has implemented zero-tariff on some commodities from the least developed countries in Africa. By the end of June 2009, the accumulative value of preferential commodities, China importing from Africa, reaches 890 million U.S. dollars. At present, China has made the implementing plan of zero-tariff on 95 percent commodities. The relevant procedures are planed to be implemented in 2010.
