China's AQSIQ Notice: Halt Problematic Taiwanese Food Imports from June 1, 2011

As reported, some Taiwan-made foods using emulsifying agents are tainted with inedible phthalate substances because some of Taiwan's food-additive makers illegally added such phthalate into the emulsifying agents they made.
In order to ensure the quality and safety of imported foods, food additives and related products from Taiwan region, China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection & Quarantine (AQSIQ) has made the following announcement on further inspection and supervision of such imports there from:
1. From June 1, 2011, suspension shall be imposed on the imports from Taiwan region of sports beverage, juice, tea drinks, jam/confiture, amylopectin products and food additives made by declared manufacturers of problematic products.
2. From June 1, 2011, any permitted imports of above-mentioned Taiwanese products shall be accompanied by inspection certificates issued by Taiwan's qualified labs of containing NO phthalate; and without such inspection certificates, the imports shall be halted.
3. The imports shall be stopped where phthalate is detected by entry/exit inspection and quarantine agencies from the aforesaid goods; and the import suspension shall also be applied to other related products of the manufacturers involved therein.
4. The list of suspension-affected Taiwan's food and food-additive enterprises is to be released and updated in the column of Import/Export Food Safety Hotspot on the AQSIQ's official website (www.aqsiq.gov.cn).
