The Indian government is likely to probe alleged dumping of bicycle parts into the country from China following a representation from the industry, an official said.
Local manufacturers of bicycle parts have complained that their business has been hit severely as over 80 per cent of the items are being imported at cheap or "dumped" prices from Chinese companies.
"Industry representatives have informed us that import of Chinese parts has damaged their business and they now want the Commerce Department for an anti-dumping probe," an official said.
The Department has analysed the manufacturers' complaints.
"You might see investigation by the Directorate General of Anti-Dumping," official in the Commerce Ministry said.
A Ludhiana-based bicycle parts manufacturer Rajat Bhatia said, "As of now the products from China has hit our sales by about 30-35 per cent".
