Pakistan Continues Tariff on Imports of Fans from China

Pakistani Ministry of Commerce here on Dec. 21, 2011 clarified that the government has not eliminated tariff on import of fans under China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA). A statement issued by the ministry, said that an impression was given in the news report titled "Chinese Products Capture Market" appeared in a section of press on December 21 that the domestic fan industry is being hurt due to tariff elimination on fans under CPFTA.

The report has further put that domestic industry is producing 5 per cent of local demand and the rest is being imported from China.

The report has quoted State Bank of Pakistan's latest annual report in this regard. The statement said that it has been therefore clarified that Pakistan has not eliminated tariff on fans under CPFTA.

The tariff on import of fan from China is 20 per cent customs duty, 17 per cent sales tax and 5 per cent withholding tax,it remarked. The fan industry in Pakistan is highly competitive and is not only fulfilling 90 per cent of domestic demand but also exporting to various destinations around the world. "Therefore the claim in the news report is not justified," it added.
