EU's Anti-Dumping Duty on Chinese-Made Saddles To Expire

The anti-dumping duty on saddles made in China will be dropped next June as the European Saddle Manufacturers Association (ESMA) did not apply for a renewal of the duties. The dumping duties were imposed by the European Commission in mid-June 2007 for a period of five years.

The anti-dumping rate stands at 29.6% and counts for all saddles imported from the Peoples Republic of China, except for the ones from: Cionlli Bicycle (Taicang) Co. Ltd.; Shunde; Hongli Bicycle Parts Co. Ltd.; Safe Strong Bicycle Parts Shenzhen Co. Ltd. and Cionlli Bicycle Components (Tainjin) Co. Ltd.

Fierce price battle

At last week's Taipei Cycle Shop Bike Europe asked European saddle makers if they expected a fierce price battle for their products once the dumping duties were lifted. One of them said that, compared to five ears ago, there are now regulations to which saddles imported into Europe have to comply such as reach.

Also the Chinese made saddles have to meet these stringent regulations and due to that this Europe based saddle maker did not expect the EU markets to be flooded with cheap products from China.
