Reportedly, on October 25, U.S. Department of Commerce announced starting a trade-remedy investigation into oriented electrical steels from China, Czech Republic, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Poland and Russia, potentially leading to punitive duties on such steel imports.

The Commerce Department says this investigation is a response to complaints by U.S. AK Steel Corporation, Allegheny Technologies Corporation, and the United Steelworkers union, which claim that the Chinese products had a 159.24% dumping margin and an over 2% subsidy margin, and those from six other countries had dumping margins of 38.54%-257.61%.

According to the Department statistics, during 2012, U.S. imports of such steels totaled USD 1.2 Million from China and USD 5.1 Million-38.2 Million from six other sources.
