Vietnam to Raise Import Duty on Some Consumer Goods

According to a report on June 4, 2010 from a Vietnam's economic newspaper, Vietnam's Ministry of Finance is seeking for opinions on the amendment of some preferential duty rate in the Table of Preferential Import Duty.
As per the draft amendment, the preferential import duty will be raised on unnecessaries and the consumer goods whose importation is not encouraged. For instance, the duty rate of rabbit meat, primate meat, including meat of reptiles like snakes and tortoises will be raised to 14% from current 10%, and that of fresh and frozen products of garlic, seeding garlic, onion and spicy vegetables will be raised to 20% from current 15%.
The import duty rate on vegetables will be raised to 23% from current 20%.
