Turkish Government Increases Customs Duty on Fabric to 28%

The government of Turkey has increased customs duty on the import of fabric from Pakistan to 28 percent and 30 percent on import of fabric from China. The Turkish government took this step due to the continuous pressure from the Turkish fabric manufacturers.
Federal Adviser to the Prime Minister on Textile Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig discussed this matter with Consul General of Pakistan in Istanbul, Turkey Dr Yousaf Junaid. Baig advised him to take up the matter with the concerned department and arrange a meeting in this regard.
He said it would affect the export orders of millions of metres, which were already under production at the Pakistani mills for shipment to Turkey.
Pakistan is a major exporter of grey and denim fabric to Turkey as raw material for their value-added products and the increase in customs duty would seriously affect their exports from Pakistan, Baig added.
