Brazil Raises Import Tariffs on Toy Products

The Mercosur's Common Market Council has decided to authorize its member states (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay) to raise their MFN import tariffs on toy products to 35% from 20%, involving products as toy tricycles, scooters, dolls, electric trains, assembling toys, jigsaws, toy musical instruments, and other motored toys.

That Decision, effective from December 28, 2010 to December 31, 2011, permits Brazil to raise such MFN tariffs to 35%, involving HS Codes 9503.00.10, 9503.00.21, 9503.00.22, 9503.00.31, 9503.00.39, 9503.00.40, 9503.00.50, 9503.00.60, 9503.00.70, 9503.00.80, 9503.00.91, 9503.00.97, 9503.00.98, and 9503.00.99, additionally lowering by two percentage points the import tariffs on toy accessories separately used or used with 9503.00.99-covered toys.
