Macedonia Reduces Import Tariff on Sugar

According to the reports by the Macedonia SITEL TV Station, the Macedonian Government has decided to reduce import tariff on sugar from 30% to 5% so as to cope with the soaring sugar price there.

Every year, Macedonia needs 80,000 tons of sugar, 50, 000 tons of which are used for food processing industry. Main import sources of sugar refer to Cuba, Thailand and Brazil, and domestic output only can meet 6% of its demands. During the past one month, the retail price of sugar in Macedonia doubled.
